Classic Ginisang Sardinas

Ingredients
- 1 can King Cup Sardines in Tomato Sauce
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 ripe tomato, chopped
- 1 small chili, sliced, optional
- 2 tbsp water, optional, for extra sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- Calamansi, for serving
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add garlic and saute for 20-30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add onion and cook until softened and slightly translucent.
- Add tomato and cook for 2-3 minutes until it breaks down and becomes saucy.
- Pour in the King Cup Sardines with the tomato sauce.
- Add chili, if using.
- Gently spoon the sauce over the sardines. Avoid stirring too aggressively so the fish stays in good pieces.
- Add 1-2 tbsp water if you want more sauce.
- Simmer gently for 3-4 minutes.
- Season with black pepper.
- Serve hot with rice and calamansi.
