Ingredients

  • 1 can King Cup Sardines in Tomato Sauce
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 ripe tomato, chopped
  • 1 small chili, sliced, optional
  • 2 tbsp water, optional, for extra sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • Calamansi, for serving
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and saute for 20-30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add onion and cook until softened and slightly translucent.
  4. Add tomato and cook for 2-3 minutes until it breaks down and becomes saucy.
  5. Pour in the King Cup Sardines with the tomato sauce.
  6. Add chili, if using.
  7. Gently spoon the sauce over the sardines. Avoid stirring too aggressively so the fish stays in good pieces.

  10. Season with black pepper.
  11. Serve hot with rice and calamansi.
