Portuguese Sardine Tomato Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 can King Cup Premium Portuguese Sardines
  • 180-200g pasta
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp sugar, optional
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup pasta water
  • Basil or parsley, optional
  • Grated cheese, optional

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente.
  2. Reserve 1/4 cup pasta water before draining.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  4. Saute garlic and onion until soft and fragrant.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce.
  6. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Add King Cup Premium Portuguese Sardines.
  8. Gently break the sardines into large pieces.
  9. Add cooked pasta and toss with the sauce.
  10. Add pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.
  11. Season with black pepper and a small pinch of sugar if the sauce tastes too sharp.
  12. Garnish with herbs and cheese, if desired.
